About the Project

As cities across the U.S. prepare for one of the world’s largest global soccer events, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science opened Soccer: More Than a Game, an exhibit designed to explore the science, motion, and energy behind the sport.

At the center of the experience are interactive environments that invite visitors to move, react, and engage in real time. One of the most prominent features, Field is Lava, challenges guests to navigate a fast-paced, sensor-driven experience that blends physical movement with responsive technology.

For Delcom Group, the project required more than installation. It required helping translate a creative vision into a real-world experience that would feel intuitive for visitors while remaining dependable and manageable for the museum team behind the scenes.

Led by Doug Busey, Director of Technical Services, Delcom worked closely with the Perot team to shape an approach that balanced experience, feasibility, and long-term usability. The team played a key role in delivering and integrating the technology across the exhibit, including interactive AV environments, specialty sound systems, and the procurement and deployment of core AV infrastructure.

This project also built on Delcom Group’s longstanding relationship with the Perot Museum, including previous work on the Speed Wall exhibit. That history helped both teams move quickly, stay aligned, and deliver a high-quality experience under tight timelines.

Solutions

Technical Planning

Delcom joined the project early to help translate the museum’s vision into a practical, scalable solution. By working closely with the Perot team from the outset, Delcom helped align creative goals with technical feasibility and long-term operational needs.

Hardware Procurement & Deployment

The team sourced and deployed the majority of the exhibit’s AV infrastructure, including displays, speakers, lidar sensors, cameras, 3D cameras, mounting hardware, and connectivity systems. Trusted partners such as Scalable Display Technologies, Extron, Samsung, and Epson helped bring the experience to life.

Interactive AV & Exhibit Integration

Delcom delivered and integrated the technology behind the exhibit’s interactive experiences, including AV environments, responsive systems, and specialty sound in the Entrance Tunnel and Calm spaces. The result was an experience built to feel seamless and engaging for visitors.

Pre-Installation Testing & On-Site Execution

A major advantage of this project was Delcom’s ability to mock up the exhibit in advance at its local facility. This made it possible to test hardware and gameplay months before installation and resolve issues early. During installation, Delcom’s local inventory and logistics capabilities also helped the team quickly address hardware challenges on-site and keep the project on schedule.

“The Perot team had a strong vision for what they wanted to create, and our role was to help turn those ideas into something practical, engaging, and dependable for both visitors and staff.”
